Kid-Made Paper Plate Pizza Craft

Random household items or office supplies often turn into some of the best craft supplies…labels, rubber bands… As a big fan of paper plate crafts for kids to make, I decided to create a fun arts and crafts activity around this and some office supply items we had around the house–Kid-Made Paper Plate Pizzas!

This Paper Plate Pizza craft is a fun way to encourage art and share the pizza-making process. Pair this activity with making a real pizza to get the kids involved in the kitchen!

Supplies Needed:

  • Paper plate
  • Brown paper (packing paper works great)
  • Pencil/marker
  • Scissors
  • Double-sided tape
  • Red acrylic paint
  • Plastic spoon
  • Cup for paint
  • Shredded white paper (junk mail works great)
  • School glue
  • Red circle/pricing stickers
  • Green rubber bands
  • Small red sequins/chunky orange glitter in a shaker bottle

Directions

1. Place the plate upside down on the brown paper and use the pencil/marker to make a circle around it, leaving a little space between the place and the pencil marks.

2. Using safety scissors, cut out the circle.

3. Create an “x” on the inside of the plate using double-sided tape and stick the brown paper circle to it.

4. Flip the plate over then add double-sided tape to the underside of the rim of the plate and fold the excess paper down onto it. We called this “kneading and shaping the dough” because we had to press down and rub on it to make sure it was sticking.

5. Turn the plate back over and use the spoon to spread the red paint on like sauce. Be careful not to add too much to one place or it will take a long time to dry.

6. While the paint is still wet, sprinkle on the shredded paper “cheese.” Spread it out and press down on it lightly so it stays once the paint dries.

7. Drizzle glue around the top of the pizza (this will dry clear) and add your toppings. We used red pricing stickers as our pepperoni and green rubber bands as green peppers then used an empty spice jar to shake on the glitter/sequin “crushed red pepper flakes” mixture.

Get creative and use what you have around the house…brown pom poms for sausage, glitter or fake snow as parmesan, plastic pieces as onions, or cut up black straws to look like black olives.

8. Let the paint and glue dry (we pretended the pizzas had to cook.).”
