Did you know that many things in your home came from the rainforest? Go on a scavenger hunt to find these items and save them inside your very own rainforest pocket book!
Supplies: Cardstock, waxed yarn (Wiki Stix), crayons, = ribbon, glue
Step 1. Lay the paper flat and fold the bottom edge of the paper upwards. Make a sharp crease. The part of the paper folded upwards will become the pockets in your book.
Step 2. Fold the paper into quarters to make 4 separate pockets. Alternate your folds towards the front and the back so that you have an accordion. Keep the pockets on the inside of the book. Glue the far sides to keep everything inside the pockets.
Step 3. Use the crayons to draw a rainforest scene in your book. Use the waxed yarn to make butterflies, snakes, other insects, and flowers. Cut the ribbon in half. Use the glue stick to attach one piece to each side of the paper.
Step 4. Go on a scavenger hunt! How many of the below rainforest items can you find in your house? Put them into your book pockets when you find them.
– chewing gum, coffee beans, rice, tea, vanilla, coconut, nuts, rubber eraser, beans, sesame seeds, sugar, chocolate, bamboo
– spices: ginger, cloves, cinnamon
– fruit: banana, mangoes, pineapple, lemon, lime, papaya, orange, tangerine (used dried or the peels)
Step 5. When you’ve collected your rainforest items, wrap the ribbon a few times around your book and tie it up to store.
