An erupting, oozing watermelon volcano! Using the classic ingredients for a home science project volcano, you can have a fun and unique science activity for kids in no time. You can also experiment and try a pumpkin during the Fall.
Ingredients:
- Carved watermelon or pumpkin (Be creative here and get adult help)
- Baking Soda
- Vinegar
- Small dish/container
- Food coloring
Directions:
Step 1: Get creative and carve a face/shape into the watermelon after coring out the center. We cut off the bottom of the melon and added a top cutout for access in pouring the vinegar onto the baking soda. (A pumpkin can be used here as well)
Step 2: Add 3-4 Tablespoons of baking soda to a small dish/container.
Step 3: Add 7-8 drops of food coloring to the baking soda in the dish.
Step 4: Place the dish inside the watermelon.
Step 5: Remove the top piece and pour in the vinegar.
Step 6: Watch the vinegar react to the baking soda and food coloring!!
