Charlie Brown Tree Rice Krispies
Who doesn’t love an ooey-gooey Rice Krispie treat – child OR adult? Let’s be real – they are a scrumptious marshmallow treat that is always a surefire crowd-pleaser at any event. This time of year, there is no shortage of holiday events to attend and what better treat to bring than Rice Krispies Treat TREES!? It’s a great baking activity for all with an opportunity for the little hands to help “decorate” the tree, practicing creativity and motor skills.
Supplies – Yields 12
- 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- 3 tbsp butter
- 10.5 oz marshmallows
- Green food coloring
- 12 miniature Reese’s cups
- ½ cup M & M minis
- 12 candy stars
- White cookie frosting
Instructions
Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
In a medium to large saucepan, melt the butter over low heat.
Add the marshmallows and stir until completely melted.
Add enough food coloring to make the mixture dark green (it will lighten when the cereal is added).
Allow to set for about 4 minutes.
Butter your hands and form the mixture into cone (tree) shapes.
Place trees onto prepared pan.
Allow to cool and firm up for several hours. We allowed this overnight.
Pipe white cookie frosting around the trees for garland, we thought ours looked like there were “icicles”!
Space M & M minis like “ornaments” onto the garland.
For our small “Charlie Brown tree”, we used the mini Reese cup as a base. Our fuller trees did not have a base. Pipe a dab of frosting onto the Reese cup if using to attach to the bottom of the tree.
Attach a star at the top with cookie frosting.
Allow to set before serving.
Right away, my kids enjoyed taking all of the “ornaments” off the tree for immediate consumption. It was a good hand/eye coordination activity for my preschooler to help place the “ornaments”.
